Serenity...

Just came back from the Serenity movie. Spoilers are under the extended entry. There's probably more, but this is all I can remember right now.

It was a full house, and everyone was clapping when it ended.

Wonderful, wonderful dialogue. Especially Kaylee's line about the batteries. And, the fact that the funniest line became the saddest.

OK, overall, it was a good movie. There were bits where I thought the scenes needed to be redone. Like, the acting felt a bit off, or the sound was off.

Minor quibbles:

- No vocals on the Firefly song! I was hoping to have it on the soundtrack.

-The sound in places drowned out the voices.

-They #$%^ #@!~ and $%^& (I said all the spoilers were below the extended entry)

I like the plot, and I'm liking the character of River Tam even more. Actually, I like how all the characters have developed.

Well, except Wash and Book. Waaaaaaaaaa! I'm going to miss Book, mostly because I wanted more character information. Why a Shepard could kick ass so well!

Wash.... I am so pissed. I'm going to miss the dinosaur fights... the bland delivery of some of the best lines in the series... [pout] And, the death was just so... so... meaningless!!

Reavers! We got to see what Reavers look like, and their history!

Another First!

Today, I helped my first trans-gendered person!

The prescription was for 'Jose Ramirez', but it was female hormones (And, the patient notes say AKA 'Carmen')

I'm just racking up the firsts!

BTW: all names were changed to cover my ass... :-)

headache from... you guessed it... HELL!

This morning, I woke up with a slight headache.

In the rush to get to work, I forgot to take medication.

It started to get worse. It started to feel like someone was tapping my head with a hammer. tap... tap... Tap... tap... TAP!...

And, I didn't have anything at work to help a headache, having forgot my usual portable pharmacy that I carry in my purse (It's on top of my stereo in my bedroom).

"But, you work in a pharmacy!" you say...

Yeah... but I have multiple items at home to take care of a headache. Aspirin, Tylenol, Alleve, Vicodin (left over from my wisdom teeth and saved up for migraines, even though they're technically expired and make me more hyper than a coffee pot full of expresso). I'm not dishing out more money for pain killers when I have it all at home.

Then, the little love taps from a hammer turn into an ice pick.

Then, it's two ice picks.

Finally, it feels like Norman Bates is going psycho on my brain. [cue oh-so-popular Psycho theme and stabbing motions]

By this time, I have about 2 hours left of work.

We debate the pros and cons between conventional medications (tylenol, alleve, etc) vs non-conventional (rum!).

I get home.

Rum it is!

But, why is the rum gone!

Oh... I drank it! I really like this rum. It's a "sippin' rum". It's Sailor Jerry. Slightly sweet, with a caramel taste to it.

WENCH! MORE RUM!

So, now, my head still hurts like a bug-phobic person is stomping on a cockroach wearing ice shoes in my brain, but I don't care mostly because I've had the equivalent of 3-4 shots of rum.

Dare I say it?

I think I shall, since I missed out on Talk Like a Pirate Day here (Even though, I had a bitchin' post all planned out in my head [pout])

WENCH! MORE RUM!

Well, no, not really... I'm going to bed. And, since I have the next two days off, after finishing the list of chores Ith gave me, I'm going to divide my time between playing Morrowind (Game of the year edition. Even more people to kill! Weeeee!) and Radiata Stories...

Side note: I need a new cleavage cam shot... but, how can you top that?!? (Need to find that shirt for my Halloween costume...)

Today Was a Day of Firsts...

Today was the first day I was cussed at. Patient brought in two prescriptions for Adderall, which was dated for tomorrow. So, according to law, we can't fill them.

She came back to pick them up, I tell her we can't until tomorrow. She started to yell and cuss at not only me, but other customers as well. So, we called the police, and they escorted her off the property. One of the other customers said he'd testify if the cops needed it.

And, not only was it for two different strengths of Adderall, but it was for 3 months worth of each, 270 of them! Each!

Today was also the first day that a guy gave me his phone number. He was in the drive-thru and passed over a winning lottery scratch card (I can get a free card!) and his phone number on the back.

So, today was a day of quite a few firsts!

Peppers for Kids!

So, Chili's is doing a charity drive for St Jude's. You donate some money, and you get a Chili to color.

I paid the money, I colored.

With Ith's input and help, I created a tartan pepper covered with names of single malt.

It was quite fun!

Someone else there turned their chili upside down and made it into a fish... People got quite creative.

Nice Thing at Work...

I meant to post about this a few days ago... The pharmacy I work at is part of a program where victims of Hurricane Katrina don't have to pay for their medication. It's also a national chain, so we're getting quite a few people from the area hit, especially New Orleans.

Basically, anyone who comes in with proof that they're a Katrina victim, they get their medications for free.

A couple came in, and I helped them. First, I didn't see their home address, just that their insurance wouldn't cover their medications, it was a refill too soon. Then, right as I was about to tell them that, I notice that they're from New Orleans. I asked them to wait five minutes while I fixed their copays.

I go off, run everything through the proper "insurance" that was set up for Katrina victims. I come back and tell them that they owe nothing.

"But, it's all refill too soon. It should be a few hundred dollars!"

"No, sir, we're not charging you as you're from Hurricane Katrina."

He started to cry and thanked me. His wife and he insisted that I was an angel and my pharmacy was the best in the country.

I almost cried while I wished them luck.

Gaming Woes

So, I just reached the point in Radiata Stories where the story breaks into two paths. I have a save file for each path.

I play one path. Get to the next boss. Open a can of whup butt, which is good, since I'm near death. Then, the game gives me a U turn and a cut scene (Game talk for a mini-movie) later, I'm fighting the same bad guy! And, death ensued. Damn it!

So, I gave up on that path, and went on the other to try it out. See above paragraph... And, death ensued. Damn it!

So, I'm taking a night off (Well, mostly so I can watch Gilmore Girls and House), and will try again tomorrow (But, which path to take... Hmmm)

T-Minus 230 Days...

There is 230 Days until that which I am waiting for.

What is that you ask?

Final Fantasy XII!

It comes out in exactly 230 days, 0 hours, and 9 minutes.

And, since it comes out on a non-holiday period, I can buy it the day it comes out! [beam]

On a good note, the fact that it isn't coming out at Christmas means possible instant gratification, instead of waiting months and month for it.

On a bad note, It's five months after Christmas!!!

T-Minus 230 Days, 0 Hours, and * minutes. from... mark! [snicker]

It's Gaming Time!

So, I saw a pretty PS2 game cover at Target today. Then, I saw in the corner that it's made by Square-Enix, which is the company that makes Final Fantasy Games. As I adore Final Fantasy games, I decided that it couldn't be that bad.

The game? Radiata Stories. And, it's brand new. Here's a picture of the cover:

radiata.jpg

Yes, I paid $50 for a game I've never heard of just because it's A) by a company I trust, and B) an RPG.

Then, I went to GameFAQs.com, which is the best Game FAQ site I know of. I always go there for when I have questions about a game.

So, I went there just to see what other people were saying on the messageboard for the game. And, I came across something that rings so true to me:

Can we RPGers look at ourselves with an ounce of self-depricating humor for once? Let's face it, alot of us will play any RPG good or bad because we're in love with the genre. Our dedication to the genre is something of an enigma and phenomenon in the gaming world. Your average gamer, and person for that matter, does not want to spend 50 dollars on a game just so they can "decide for themselves." We RPGers don't really care either way though, we'll still buy it. -- Putingrad

That, right there, explains me so well...

OK... of to try this game.

Oh, my, it is a new game! This came out in America on September 6th! (And, on January 27 in Japan...)

Twit-man Attacks!

OK... What is the correct spelling of the animal that goes with this definition: A large carnivorous feline mammal (Panthera leo) of Africa and northwest India, having a short tawny coat, a tufted tail, and, in the male, a heavy mane around the neck and shoulders. (Provided by the online American Heritage Dictionary) (Yes, I know the spelling, I'm just making a point.)

Why do I ask?

Patient comes in, and says, "I'm here to pick up my sister's medications. Her last name is lion, like the animal."

OK... I search. Nothing. "I'm not finding her."

"She's in there! I know it."

"Like the animal?"

"Right!"

"Just one?"

The way the search engine works, you can either search by the first two letters of the last name, or the full last name. Anything else will only bring up hits on what you typed in the search field.

"I'm not finding her."

Patient gets mad, sees another tech. "She knows me."

Other tech looks over. "It's L-Y-O-N-S."

LYONS, not LION!!!! ARGH!!!!
